What is SDS and NON –SDS visa process?
Canada has launched the Student Direct Stream (SDS) program in India on 8th June 2018 to provide more eligible Indian students with the opportunity to study at a Canadian post-secondary institution (Universities and Polytechnics) and for the faster student visa application processing time. SDS (Student Direct Stream) is a student permit facilitation program which will offer faster and simpler visa processing to international students.
Non-SDS on the other side is the traditional method of applying VISA for Canada. SDS takes upto 1-2 weeks for your visa decision whereas Non-sds can take upto 60 days.

What about the students who have already applied for student visa under SPP program? Will they be considered under SPP OR SDS Canada?

Don’t worry, If you have already submitted your application under SPP program. In such cases, this new SDS Canada program will not affect in any way. IRCC will continue processing your application as they committed to do under the previous SPP program.

Am I assured a student visa if I choose to apply through SDS?
No, Visa is not assured for any visa category. The SDS Canada visa category provides a streamlined student visa application process and faster processing times but you must have to fulfil all the requirements for a student visa.

What all documents needed if I am applying for SDS method?
• have the minimum-required IELTS level of English language ability of 6.0 in all sections (reading, writing, listening, and speaking)
                     • purchase of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of $10,000,
                     • have been accepted by an eligible Post secondary Designated Learning Institute (DLI List)
                     • tuition payment for the first year of study at a DLI in Canada,
                     • From 30th April 2019, All students need to apply online to get a study permit through the SDS Stream. No paper applications under SDS.
                     • completion of an upfront medical examination

I have given TOEFL exam. Can I apply visa via SDS process?
No! you can’t. You need to apply via NON-SDS method

Can I get medical checkup from any doctor?

What is GIC ?
GIC (Canada) is a condition put forward by the Canadian government before any International Student apply for Visa. GIC guarantees that student has sufficient funds for survival during his study period.

Is GIC mandatory?
It depends, if you are applying VISA via SDS method, GIC is MANDATORY ,but on the other hand if you applying via NON-SDS , its not mandatory. But it would be a plus point for your profile, if you get a GIC for your visa application.

From where can I get GIC?
You can register and create a new account on SCOTIA Bank or CBIC. Both are well known banks. Scotia is much preferred bank but now CBIC is giving out GIC certificate within 2-3 days max, people opting for it.

I see many people going with Scotia Bank and not CBIC? What difference I would see in between these?
Like stated above, Scotia would take about 5-10 days max for your GIC certificate whereas the later one would give you GIC certificate within 2-3 days max. BUT the rate of conversion is very high as compared to Scotia.

What is the photograph specification for VISA Filing?
The frame size must be at least 35 mm × 45 mm (1 3/8” × 1 3/4”).
• The photographs must show the full front view of the head, with the face in the middle of the
photograph, and include the top of the shoulders.
• The size of the head, from chin to crown, must be between 31 mm (1 1/4”) and 36 mm (1 7/16”).
• Crown means the top of the head or (if obscured by hair or a head covering) where the top of the
head or skull would be if it could be seen.
• If the photographs do not meet the specifications, you will have to provide new photographs
before your application can be processed.

I made Scotia Bank account with University A , now I have planned to go to University B, is it possible to change the University name in my Scotia Bank profile?
Yes, this can be done without any problem. You have to mail :- email@scotiabank.com and give your passport scan in attachment and tell Both colleges/Universities name accordingly

Can I show FD (Fixed deposits) as source of funds?
Yes, you can show and you would require the bank to give you a letter stating that these funds can be withdrawn anytime as per need.

Do I need to give original CA certificate for filing?
Yes.

Do we have to give original transcripts or original degree for visa filing?
No, scan copies are pretty much enough.

What happens to my GIC AND Paid Tuition fees, if my Student Visa application is refused?
You will be able to apply directly to the respective bank that issued your Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) for a full refund. You should contact your university / college for a refund of your tuition fees.

I got VISA by applying for University A ,Now I got admit for University B, what to do?
It would be better to inform about the university change in all docs (such as GIC)

I got admit from one university in Canada, but I am waiting for other admits (in Canada only), Can I go for medical?
Yes, you can go with the medical checkup, they just ask your admit letter. Also you won’t require to tell again to hospital that you changed your university.

What is the approximate cost of the medicals?
It can range from 4000 INR to 6000 INR.

What all tests are done in a medical test?
Urine test,blood test, chest Xray and doctor consulting

Can I get VISA on conditional admit letter?
Yes , almost all students get conditional admit letter(where the conditions are to submit your UG degree certificate or transcripts),You can start your VISA process via that admit letter. No issues.

How much time it takes for the medical checkup to get completed?
It depends upon the day(like week days or weekends) and obviously the hospital locality. Weekends see more rush due to holidays. Usually it takes from 1-4 hrs, depending upon the rush.

Is SOP mandatory?
No, SOP is not mandatory for any of the process but for NON SDS its highly advised to submit a SOP which gives a human touch to your VISA application.

Will I get Post-graduation work permit after Study from Any DLI on List?
Not all DLIs make you eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. The last column of DLI List is the “Offers PGWP-eligible programs”. If you want Post-graduation work permit after Study, Choose the institute with YES in “Offers PGWP-eligible programs” column. you need to meet all other criteria to get a post-graduation work permit.

Studying in Canada guarantees PGWP?
A post-graduation work permit may be issued based on the length of the study program for a minimum of 8 months up to a maximum of 3 years.
When determining the length of a post-graduation work permit, officers may consider the duration of the program of study in Canada and confirm it with supporting documents. Regularly scheduled breaks (for example, scheduled winter and summer breaks) should be included in the time accumulated toward the length of the post-graduation work permit.
